New City Council-member Elected for Ward 4

Jonathan Bass, a political newcomer and Greenwood Family YMCA executive, is headed to the City Council following results of Tuesday’s special election.
Bass secured all 16 votes of those who hit the polls — a 0.63% turnout of the 2,527 registered voters in his Ward 4.
Bass, the only candidate who filed to fill Kenn Wiltshire’s unexpired term, will be seated on June 17, the next City Council meeting.
Bass said Wiltshire, who resigned in April after his wife got a job in Myrtle Beach, encouraged him to run.
“This is going to sound apolitical, but I’m just here to continue the good work they’ve been doing and be as helpful as I can be to anybody who needs it, as Kenn was to me,” Bass said.
Bass, a member of the City/County Board of Zoning Appeals, said he’ll resign that post so he can fulfill his City Council obligations.
“I have a lot to learn, and I did not do this with any intention of hoping to position myself personally with any higher aspirations,” Bass said. “I didn’t want to do to campaign signs. I’ll probably be the worst politician that’s there because I hope our actions can speak for ourselves.”
