Greenwood has most recently become a participant in the national America in Bloom program. America in Bloom envisions communities across the country as welcoming and vibrant places to live, work, and play - benefitting from colorful plants and trees; enjoying clean environments; celebrating heritage; and planting pride through volunteerism. The program promotes nationwide beautification through education and community involvement by encouraging the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements. Participants such as Greenwood experience better cooperation among municipal, commercial and residential sectors because everyone works toward a common goal. They enjoy visible results. Via the national symposium and awards, they have information and cultural exchanges with neighboring, national and international communities.
Greenwood was, in its first year of participation, awarded a 4 out of possible 5 “blooms” and highlighted for its strong ties to community involvement and volunteerism to make significant community visions become a reality. In addition, Greenwood was awarded a national award for Floral Displays for its Signature Topiary Display that is showcased in Uptown Greenwood each June and July as part of the SC Festival of Flowers.
