Precious Metal Permits
Any business or principal within the corporate limits of the City of Greenwood is required to submit an application to the Greenwood Police Department. South Carolina state law requires that anyone buying or selling gold, silver, or platinum in the state must have a permit from their local jurisdiction in order to conduct business.
What is required for a permit?
The person(s) responsible for the business are required to submit an application and undergo a background check prior to be permitted for business. The application should list all persons who will be conducting the business on behalf of the company. South Carolina state law also requires that a $50 permit fee be paid annually by the applicant.
What do I need to do?
First, download and complete the application here. The application can be filled out in Adobe PDF, or you can print it out and fill it out in ink. The application must be returned to the Finance Department at PO Box 40, Greenwood, SC 29646, along with the $50 fee.
